Monash Brewlab Newsletter Vol. 7

A WRAP UP OF OUR LAST 2 WEEKS

Monash Open Day was a huge success for the Monash Brewlab team. The event presented an amazing opportunity to teach future students what engineering is all about. While the team is mainly composed of chemical engineering students, they were happy to discuss the possible career paths students can take. Open day also allowed the team to display the equipment that is used in brews, igniting great discussion about the brewing process. The team presented their first explorations into Kombucha, a new product stream that will be introduced! Thank you to everyone who came along and helped the team to celebrate Monash Brewlab's first public appearance!

It was really exciting to have the opportunity to explore the Cartlon United Abottsford Brewery. Producing some of the most successful and delicious beers in the business, it was great to get some insight into how a huge commercial brewery runs. The team was blown away by the kegging line and bottling stations, and the efficiency and detail involved in the entire brewing process. After speaking with Tim and Jacinta, the Brewlab team was able to pick up some useful tips about malt and hops and learn about the interesting processes used at CUB to make their beers so consistent and reliable.

Meet...Evelyn!

We caught up with Evelyn and asked her a couple of questions so that YOU can get to know her better!

Role: Events Officer

Studies: Bachelor of Chemical Engineering

What is your favourite part about being involved with the Monash Brewlab?

"I love being around like-minded students who motivate each other to achieve the goals we have set for ourselves. Also, learning about brewing techniques and taking part in brews is a more hands on way for me to apply what I’ve learned."

How has the Monash Brewlab challenged you recently?

"I have never organised an event as big as Open Day, the weeks leading up to Open Day has allowed me to step outside of my comfort zone, utilising the different skills I have acquired over the past years of working with students as well as my hospitality experience to co-ordinate a large group of people from different specialties and backgrounds to bring the event to life."
